THE OPENING

5 years after the original Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith return with Men in Black 2. Not nearly as entertaining as the original, the sequel seemed like it was put together in about 5 minutes. No real story, few jokes and a dog that stole the show.

THE STORY

Agent J (Will Smith) is now 'the man' in the Men in Black. He's been doing his thing for 5 years while Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) has been a postman in a small New England town. Now an alien (Lara Flynn Boyle) wants some kind of light that is somewhere on Earth, and the only person who knows its whereabouts is Agent K. But of course his memory has been erased. So Agent J needs to find him, convince him to rejoin the Men in Black, get his memory back, and save the Earth once again. And there's a dog that likes to sing.

THE REVIEW

As you can see, there isn't much of a story. The movie is basically Will Smith doing some facial expressions and throwing out some comedic lines. Then there's the dog that was pretty funny. The story was almost non-existent and frankly rather boring. The special effects weren't anything special and the entire movie just kind of flew by. I was left wondering what happened. Where did all the money go? Where's the story? The worst thing about the movie, was that an hour after I left, I could barely remember even being there. There was nothing at all memorable about Men in Black 2. It was just an hour and a half of so-so humor, so-so special effects and a couple of actors going through the motions. There was no heart to the film at all. If not for the singing dog, I'm not sure I would have laughed at all. None of the aliens were fun or even looked all that good. Now that I think about it, a C- might even be too high of a grade. But I'm too lazy to go back and change it.

THE BOTTOM LINE

So overall, Men in Black 2 is one that can easily be skipped in the theaters. If you liked the original, and feel like you have to see the sequel at least wait till it hits second run theaters. If you're gonna waste money on something you won't remember seeing an hour later, at least that way you won't waste a lot of money.
