Have you ever seen the movie Dumb and Dumber? You remember the scene where Jim Carrey says "You want to hear the most annoying sound in the world?" Well guess what Jim, Semisonic has you beat! In the past I've heard music I didn't like, even hated. But I've never heard a CD I had to shut off because it annoyed the piss out of me.The first two songs, "Closing Time" and "Singing in my Sleep" are just fine. I like both of them. After that, it just gets annoying! After a while lead singer Dan Wilson was on my "people to kick the shit out of list" with his whiny voice. For example, the fifth song "Secret Smile" may be the next song the CIA uses to break terrorists in a hostage situation. Hell, I wanted to go to jail when I got done listing to it.
As for the music, it takes on the sound of Radiohead, but it just doesn't work for them. A perfect example of what I mean is the song "DND." The song isn't bad, but after sitting through half of that CD, nothing could make up for the pain. Skip this one kids, you'll thank me later.
