Chalk up another really
alternative sound for the boys of Radiohead. Unfortunately, this "alternative"
sound won't last since everyone is trying to capture that dejected youth
sound. However, this 12 track CD of original songs is all right. Just a warning, if you are in a really good mood this may not be the fix
you need, because it will smooth you out. And on the other side,
if you are in a really bad mood, this CD could put you in a downward spiral
leading to you, a clock tower, and gunned down innocent civilians. My personal favorite on
the album is the song "Fake Plastic Trees," which is slow and very smooth.
However, the commonly played radio song "High and Dry", "Nice Dream" and
"Black Star" are really good songs as well. The sound of the CD is
hard to put into one place. Most songs start out with acoustic guitar
and then move into plugged-in hard guitar. The vocals are the outstanding
part. Thom Yorke seems to put you in a trance with his soft yet distinct
lyrics. The problem is that all the songs seem to sound the same
after a while. I'd recommend this CD if
you like to have background music while you study or while you are burning
some smoke with the gang. Depending on the girl, this may also be
a great getting laid CD. This is not a party or driving CD.
