You want unique? You want character? Would you like to listen to a large bald man scream at you for a little while? Well come to Charleston, West Virginia and you'll get that if you go to see The Pistol Whippers. If I were going to characterize what you're going to get it would break down like this. Take a healthy portion of the Reverend Horton Heat, mix in a dollop of the Misfits, and a pinch of Dick Dale and the Daletunes and your ready to cook! I've seen this band perform several times at a local club called the Empty Glass (the only place in town that you can count on to have a band almost every night). I've had a blast every time…. and the energy is non-stop. So what are you going to hear on their debut album?
Track 1, 10-31, is a story about Halloween mischief. Track 3, Harper Valley, is instrumental surf music, with a real cool flow to it. Track 7, Hoosier Daddy, a great song. How can you go wrong with lyrics like "Come on over here and sit on daddy's lap. What do you mean you ain't got no panties on? That's what daddy likes." Beer Pirate, track 8, has a background story to it. Apparently one of the bands friends always seems to be broke but some how always manages to have beer. He has hence been dubbed the beer pirate.
I've got to say I am a little biased about these guys, since I've worked and drank with the lead singer (aka Guy Parker). These guys put on a great show, especially when the do their song Memphis and a version of Kenny Rogers "The Gambler." I suggest you check them out. Contact the email above for info on getting a CD.
