By now I'm sure you've heard the song Lullaby by Shawn Mullins. The song employs a simply guitar and a guy telling a story about a girl in LA. When I heard it, it sounded like a one hit wonder, but I took the chance. And as Pat Murphy so properly quotes, "I'd rather be lucky than good." The CD is great! Imagine Lou Reed smoking a bong and then stealing Jewel's music book. With that image in your head, picture him playing at a coffee house or a small bar.

The music, for the most part, is made up of simple guitar riffs and a lot of simple rhythmic lyrics. Beyond Lullaby, the CD offers other great songs. My personal favorites Twin Rocks, Oregon which has been stuck in my head for about a week now and Shimmer. All the music has a down to earth feel to it, without seeming to be a cheap imitation. Kind of makes you want to go out and buy a VW Bus and hit the road for a few years. This isn't a party CD, its a drink a few beers with some friends or that "trying to get in good with a girl" CD. You make the call. If I was to guess, however, the CD may not make a big splash on the radio because the songs tend to be very simple. So if you don't hear him on your local stations, you'll have to take my word for it. I hope, for his sake, that it makes it big. He deserves it.
