Lyrics Inside

This is the second indie album I've received that takes the form of a rock opera (see archived review of The Count), or in this case a "Gothic Drama." Blue's "Holly's Song," is "a murder, a love, a death, a haunting." The context of the CD is broken into 4 acts, each delving into the different scenarios to provide the listener with a story via music. I've got to say this is quite a unique idea and listening experience. Blue's music is laden with the sounds and feel of Pink Floyd's "The Wall."

What are you going to see on the CD? As stated, there are 4 different sections to the CD. Each carries its own story. I enjoyed track 1, Glimpse, which is simply an instrumental introduction. It reminded me of "One of These Days" by Floyd. "Quiet," track 6, seems to be a dark song about the contemplation of suicide. Very cool, but kinda creepy. "Muted Whimper," track 9, takes the listener for a walk through a killing of who I can only assume is Holly. Track 12, "Requiem for Two," is composed of a soft and pleasant piano. This is the catharsis of the story told throughout the CD.

In sum, this isn't the CD you put in if your feeling a little depressed. But if you are looking for something different, this should fit your bill. If you like the somber tunes of Pink Floyd or Radiohead, Blue maybe a musician for you to follow. I wish him luck.
