What red blooded American Boy didn't stay up late at night and watch a women's prison movie on HBO after the folks retired to the rack? If you're male and your hand isn't up, your lying. Well the movie Banditsbrings back your childhood dreams with a rock and roll touch! Apparently the movie is about some ladies that are in a German prison and form a band and break out and go on tour---Thelma and Louise if they had been caught by MTV producers. While the movie sounds like a big pile lesbian bondage laden cheese, the soundtrack ain't too bad. The girls in the movie, however, are not the girls who do the songs on the CD. Referred to as "musical stuntmen" a group of male German musicians play behind the female lead vocals (with names like Ktja von Garnier and Dirk Heinrich I'd say it's safe to assume they are German). The movie is slated to be out in this month. You can learn more about the movie at www.banditsmovie.com.

All of the songs have a rough rock sound. Some of the stand outs are "Puppet", "It's Alright", and "If I Were God" (which is almost punk). I was also impressed to find a version of "All Along The Watchtower" here. While its no Jimi, I believe Dylan would be proud. I also liked track number 13 "Ain't Nobody's Buziness If I Do" which has a vaudeville sound to it. Overall, this is a unique CD. I assure you that it's not your main stream music and I doubt you'll be hearing it on the radio anytime soon. While I can't speak to the movie, I think the CD is worth checking out if you feel like taking a chance on unknown artists. Some of the songs on the CD you can listen to on CDNOW…check it out.
