"For me, there is little question that this will be the top album of 97-98. My only hope is that they haven't washed out all their talent in one load." These were the remarks I made about 3EB's first self titled album of 1997. I'm glad to say that the band did not infact "blow their load"... at least not yet. The first album from these guys was my all time top album until this month's upset from Incubus. Nevertheless, this new album while great, has lost the edge that the first album had. All the same semi-depressing ideas are conveyed, but just not with so much force. Note, I am by no means bashing this CD, I'm simply saying that its not the first album and I don't think its as good. But, its still a good CD and a good buy.

Excluding "NEVER LET YOU GO," which has been on the top 40 for the last few months and now dwindled into the background, there are many other good songs on this CD. For example, one of my favorite songs is the last track, "DARWIN." I like the soft acoustic sound and I like the odd story that it tells. I mean how can you go wrong with lyrics like, "Chromosome divides, multiply and thrive, and the strong survive…And a spaceman fucked and ape and cut out on the date. Now its much too late, the space ship has escaped." I'm also a big fan of "10 DAYS," a song about a guy and a girl dealing with a unplanned pregnancy…or at least the possibility of one. I mean who hasn't been their at least once in their adolescent life….either receiving or pitching.

Again, if you looking for the first album here, your out of luck. This CD is much more main stream (whatever that is) and not nearly as gritty. But your not going to find some limp dribble like the new Matchbox 20 CD. I have to say this is a keeper. But I'll say this, I figue the next CD we get here is a loser. These guys seem to be on their way out. Maybe they've lost all the angst that makes a new band good? Who knows. Again, I hope I'm wrong. I guess we'll see.
